Aqualution Systems Ltd, based in Duns, has been named 2021 Manufacturer of the Year at the Business Insider Made In Scotland Awards hosted by Fred MacAulay last week, a huge achievement for the small business.
As the global leader in the science, manufacture and application of electrolysed water, otherwise known as hypochlorous acid, a powerful biocide that is spearheading a revolution in health and hygiene, Aqualution impressed the judges with the scale-up of their manufacturing output over the past year.
Not only has Aqualution shown impressive growth of over 600%, the business has also recently launched its first medical device product, started trials of its product as a disinfectant in African hospitals with the World Health Organisation, has increased its staff levels, making key new hires to drive further sustainable growth, and has secured land in Duns for a new factory due to be up and running in early 2022 with support from SOSE.
The award win was announced at Thursday’s Made In Scotland Awards against some stiff competition from ICL Tech and Irvine Springs.
Aqualution’s Commercial Director, Lee-Anne Gillie who picked up with the award at the virtual event said, “We are thrilled to have been recognised as Manufacturer of the Year. Our remarkable product has been key in the fight against Covid-19 and we are entering new markets and sectors as the awareness of the benefits of hypochlorous acid increases globally.”
Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive of SOSE said, “Congratulations to Aqualution Systems Ltd who are worthy winners of this prestigious manufacturing award. This achievement recognises Aqualution Systems Ltd as a leader in the science, production and application of hypochlorous acid, and acknowledges its fight to tackle real-world problems including COVID-19. SOSE’s vision is to be bold, ambitious, and deliver across the South – and we are delighted to support the work of this innovative business, who are leading the way in life-sciences not only across the region, but also globally.”
